SplashData was established in the year 2000 and since then, this California based company has been offering high quality security software and services. One of their main products is SplashID, a password manager that allows you to have better control over all your passwords. With SplashID, you will be able to secure notes and add photos to the information saved. The Pro version of the software allows you to sync data across a variety of platforms including popular options like Mac, iOS, Android and Windows.
You can opt for the free version or upgrade to the premium version. With SplashID Pro, it is possible to enjoy additional features and extended compatibility. It supports automated backups and allows you to sync over the cloud or through WiFi connection. You can also share records, get priority support and enjoy future updates. The price for SplashID Pro depend on the length of the subscription. If you opt for one month, the price is $1.99 and if you decide to pay for one year in advanced, the cost is $19.99, which means that you save some money in the long run. You can also get a lifetime license for $39.95 and they accept different credit cards as methods of payment.
Difference between Free and Pro accounts
The free version of SplashID offers a limited selection of features, but it supports the core functionality of the software so you will be able to use it to store your passwords safely. There are mobile apps for Android and iOS and once you download the one that suits your device, you only need to enter an email address to sign up for a free account. The free version only works with one device and it doesn’t support syncing or sharing. If you want to get additional features, the best option is to upgrade to SplashID Pro. Here are the options that the paid version supports:
The Pro version supports automated backups. It lets you restore from your last 5 backups
You will be able to sync your data using a WiFi connection or via the cloud
You can access from any location on any device including Mac, Windows, iOS and Android
Security dashboard that can identify weak passwords
You get priority support and future updates
Overall, it is better to invest in the pro version as it offers more features and it is available for an affordable price. The free version only supports limited functionality so in order to take full advantage of what SplashID offers, the Pro version is the way to go.
As previously mentioned, it is possible to use SplashID on multiple platforms. The installation is easy and during the set up process, you need to create a master password. This is the only password that you will have to remember as it is needed to access all the passwords that you have stored in SplashID. While it is important to ensure that you can remember the password easily, it should also be secure. One thing to note and that can be considered as a downside is that by default, SplashID only requires that the password has 3 characters, which may be practical in terms of remembering the password, but can also rise concerns in terms of security. Thankfully, this can be changed in the Settings.
When you are setting up the software, you are also asked to choose the way in which you want to sync the data. It is possible to use cloud services, WiFi connection or you can disable syncing functionality. A Pro account is needed so that you can sync data between devices and the only information that is required is your email address so that you can receive an email verification. Once the email is verified after you click on the message that you receive from SplashData, you will be able to start using the software.
One last thing that you need to select during the setup process is if you want to start with sample data or not. The choice is yours, but it may be useful to have samples of multiple types of accounts. Using sample data allows you to get a practical overview of the functionality that SplashID offers. It enables you to save multiple types of information for every type of account. You can save software license key, account number, pin code and other details.
In the Settings tab in the left navigation bar, you will see a list of options that can be configured. Here, you will be able to increase the amount of characters that can be used for the password generator, this allows you to make your passwords stronger. It is possible to use lowercase, uppercase letters, special characters and numbers to increase the security of the passwords.
In the SplashID dashboard, you will find out how secure your passwords are and will be able to fix any weaknesses. The dashboard shows you graphics that feature repeated passwords, old passwords and weak passwords. You will also have the chance to discover any issues and solve them. Your most recent backups are listed on the right side with a button so that you can see more. The diagram at the top of the dashboard shows you how many records have been stored in SplashID.
The apps can be downloaded for free from Google Play Store and the App Store. If you have upgraded to Pro, you can get access to all the features that the apps offer and will be able to sync data across all your devices. The apps work pretty much in the same way as the desktop software. The Pro version allows you to enter the accounts on any system and sync them between devices.
In order to be able to sync data, you will have to upgrade to SplashID Pro. Once you have signed up, you will be able to sync the data using the SplashID cloud service or via WiFi. When you run the software for the first time, you will see the option to use SplashID cloud service to keep your information secure and up to date. Your data will be backed up to their cloud servers and it can be accessed from any platform supported. Alternatively, you can sync via WiFi or you can simply disable the sync feature.
SplashID Key Safe
There is also a hardware device available that allows you to store crucial data. This is known as SplashID key safe and it is a USB key designed to keep your passwords secure. The key can hold up to 4GB of data, it is available for Mac or Windows and it costs $29.99, including one year of Pro service. You can also buy bundles for a special price. Getting a SplashID Key Safe with a Pro plan included can be a practical solution and you won’t need to install the program on your computer. The key can also be a backup for your data and it allows you to get easy access to your passwords when you are on the go.
While there are no password managers of cloud services that can guarantee complete security, SplashID has taken the necessary steps to keep your information protected. The data is encrypted locally and you can decide if you want to sync with the cloud service. If this option is selected, the data is transferred through an encrypted connection. Their servers are regularly backed up and checked to identify any threats. There are also advanced features that can bring security to the next level. For instance, you can mark records in SplashID as local only, which means that if the data is synced to the cloud, the records marked as local only, won’t be synced.
The setting can be toggled on or off for individual records whenever you want and the record will be deleted or synced, depending on your preference. Two-factor authentication is supported for new logins and it is possible to get them to send you a verification code via email when there is a login from a new system. This will help you to prevent unauthorized access.
The website offers a support page where you will find answers to the most frequent questions and you will also find helpful guides. You can also contact them in case you need personalized assistance. Keep in mind that Pro users get priority support.
While there is a free version available, if you want to get more than some basic password storage capacity, you will need to upgrade to the Pro version of SplashID. This will allow you to sync the data across devices and to enjoy all the features that the software supports. Overall, SplashID offers convenient tools to manage and organize your passwords effectively and in a secure way. Just make sure that you set up a secure master password to keep all your data protected.
