How to access US Netflix using NordVPN in just a few steps

In 2016, Netflix launched its service on a global scale, offering people in almost every country the chance to subscribe. While thanks to this expansion, people all over the world can enjoy the advantages of this popular online streaming platform, there is a catch. Due to geographical restrictions implemented based on the licensing agreements between Netflix and the production companies, the content that is available in every location supported by Netflix is different. In general, the content that is available in smaller markets is very limited when compared to what is offered in the United States. The Netflix library in the US offers more TV shows and movies than what you can get in countries like Estonia, where less than %15 of the content is available. It seems unfair that the experience with Netflix varies so much between locations, but there is a way to overcome the restrictions.

Using NORDVPN for Netflix

The reason why the content that Netflix offers in the countries supported is so different, is related to copyright and licensing issues. The content is licensed by country so when an agreement is signed, it is stipulated that it can only be available in a specific country or region. A TV show or movie may be licensed for one country, but not for another one. To comply with its agreements with the studios, Netflix has implemented geographical blocks that prevent users from accessing certain content. In order to bypass the restrictions, many people has opted for VPN services. They can mask your location, which allows you to appear as if you were somewhere else.

For instance, you can connect to a server in the United States and get an IP address that will trick Netflix into thinking that you are in that country. The issue is that Netflix has taken steps to stop its subscribers from using VPNs and proxies. As a result, many services are no longer capable of helping users outside the US to unblock the Netflix  library in that location. Luckily, there are still a few VPNs that have the necessary technology to defeat Netflix’s blocks. They allow you to access much more content than what you can get in your local library. You just need to connect to a VPN server in the US to discover what you  have been missing.

Netflix subscribers outside the United States will find that there is not a large selection of movies available in their library. In many cases, most of the content available is old and not very varied. To be able to enjoy a better experience with Netflix, you can use a VPN service, but as previosuly mentioned, not all VPNs are effective when it comes to accessing the US library. NordVPN is one of the few services that works for this purpose. It is a reliable service that allows you to stream content with freedom and it supports great speeds.

How to get access to US Netflix with Nordvpn

  1. Go to NordVPN’s website and subscribe to the plan that better suits your needs. There are is a monthly plan available if you want to start with a short-terms solution, but to get the better value for money, it is advisable to go for the yearly or bi-annual plan. Currently, they also have a plan for 3 years that offers the biggest discount.
  2. Once you fill the login details and select the payment method you prefer, you can download the dedicated NordVPN client for your platform. After the installation, you can open NordVPN and log into your account using the details created when you purchased the plan.
  3. The next step is to select the server you want to connect to. In this case, you will need to select a server in the United States to be able to access the Netflix library in that location. Once you connect to the US server, your IP address will be changed. NordVPN offers multiple servers in the United States, so if one server doesn’t work, you can simply try a different one from the list of options available.

To make sure that everything is working as it should and that you are actually accessing the Netflix library in the United States, you can go to the app or website and check the content that is displayed. You should see many more options than what is usually available in your location. There are websites that keep updated lists to let you know what can be watched in every country. Keep in mind that since Netflix is constantly trying to stop users from using VPNs, a server that was working for you yesterday may not work today. It is like a game of cat and mouse and while Netflix may manage to block some servers, VPNs like NordVPN are able to update their network on a regular basis to offer new options that work with Netflix.
